Black Cows & Purple Goats

March 30, 2008

What the heck do Black Cows and Purple Goats have to do with marketing?

Nothing and Everything!

Unless you are referring to the good & plenty (pun and tie in to black and purple) poor headline writers out there. This is an example of what people don’t understand when they are posting on the social sites. Headlines are important. They can make or break your post on places like Reddit, Propeller, and Digg. If you don’t have something that will grab peoples attention then you might just as well not post. Especially if you are going to post the same old tired information.

We have been preaching this for months now to our fantastical group on Ka-Boom-Marketing. If you only have (experts say) 7 seconds to grab someones attention then you better make the words count. Don’t waste it with really spammy or typical headlines. I almost never read someones post let alone go to their page (which if you have not figured it out yet) is the real point to posting on the socials… ok small rant there.

People don’t seem to understand (that is why we are here to impart our great wisdom) that it is about creating traffic. Traffic that will go to your blog, your website, or your sales page and buy or participate. It is not just to get votes. I am saying it again it is not just about votes!!! However the votes and the comments will help you get noticed by the Search Engines and will possibly land you on the front page which is premo territory.

So to recap here our good & plenty story on Social Marketing; You need to create “friggin brilliant” headlines, followed by some tantalizing copy that will get you votes from your friends, but more importantly will get people interested enough to go to your site and see what the heck you are talking about.

Next goal make what you are talking about interesting and valuable enough to make it worth their while to visit your site.
